Dr. Yakely has officially retired from AECS.

We wish him the best and thank him for his many years of providing veterinary ophthalmology services to the community.  We may occasionally see Dr. Yakely back at AECS to provide relief coverage at times.

As a child I was blessed to live next door to a veterinarian, Dr. Miller, whom I routinely went on emergency calls with. At 14 years of age I felt a calling. I graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1967. During my junior and senior year at OSU, I became a Mark Morris Research Fellow, working on inherited eye defects in dogs. This started my interest in veterinary ophthalmology.

Karen, my bride, and I moved to Pullman Washington where I joined Washington State University as an intern teaching ophthalmology and endocrinology. I graduated with a Masters in Veterinary Science in 1969. Successful completion of the board certification requirements and examination resulted in admission to the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 1975.

My bride, Karen and I have two children, four grandchildren, and a granddog. All of our families are presently living on the family farm. My hobbies include reading, carving duck decoys and songbirds, skiing, fishing, and some boating.
